We are the 9th Sword of the Dragon. Our history is long and storied. Founded in 1995, we have forgotten more accomplishments than other groups have obtained. We do not claim perfection. We have fallen on our knees like any other. The average regiment will not survive. We have, many times over.
As for our vision, we fight for what we believe in -- truth, honor, virtue, and a steadfast determination to defend our borders. We use the tools at our disposal: skill, courage, tenacity, persistence, and fortitude. None of these are just words to us. We fight every day for these ideals and because of these ideals. Our agenda is not always the most popular one. Some may call us arrogant. Some may call us foolish. But in the end, we pursue our goals with a clarity of purpose from which we can look in the mirror each day and respect what we see.
Wanting to join? Well, you better be tough. If you do not have a strong constitution and an even stronger will, you best walk away right now. We do not have time for childish antics, for boys playing at soldier, or for glory hounds looking to attach their names to our tradition.
Still interested? Good, then you may have what it takes.
How long has 9th Sword of the Dragon existed?
Since 1995. We began in Multiplayer Battletech: Solaris. Back in the day we were actually two separate groups, the 22nd Rasalhague Regulars and Tooth of Y'mir. We came together in 1998 to form 9th Sword of the Dragon.
How did you get your name?
We are not a Battletech universe canon regiment. The "Sword of the Dragon” regiments were created by Kesmai in preperation for MPBT: 3025. We took up the 9th Sword of the Dragon as they were stationed in Rasalhague Military District, according to the Table of Organization created for MPBT: 3025.
What games have you played?
As far as mech games go, we have played Multiplayer Battletech: Solaris and Multiplayer Battletech:3025. We also participated in the War! Online league, and a few us played NBT. However, Mechwarrior 4 was never our cup of tea. After 3025 died, to keep us busy we also played Dark Age of Camelot, Lineage 2, World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online, and Aion. We did well at all of these games but blowing up mechs has always been our true calling.
What faction are you fighting for?
House Kurita, always. Admittedly it was difficult for us with this time setting, since previously we were in Rasalhague Military District. However we are sticking it out in House Kurita.
Will you be a faction unit or mercenary?
We are a House Kurita unit.
What do you look for in a player?
A difficult question, since we will need a wide range of players. Basically we have our Rules and Regulations. Those are not a joke, you must follow them. We want players who will push themselves to be the best pilot they can be, to put the victory of the team and House Kurita as their primary goal. Also it's important you keep a cool head, and not be a jerk to members of the 9th Sword, House Kurita, or even to our enemies. We're here to defeat our enemies on the field, not with insults and slurs.
Is age important?
In some respects, yes. We would like to see players who are at least over the age of 18. I fully realize that a 16 year old can be mature, and a 40 year old can be immature. However a part of the age requirement is also our voice comms. We may have adult conversation on it at times, and we don't need someone's mother yelling at us, as humorous as it would be.
Are you as 'hardcore' as your info makes you sound?
No, not really. Don't get me wrong, we take our dropping seriously in the sense that we play to win. We've always pushed ourselves to succeed as a team, and it is expected that you follow battle commands, be a good pilot, etc. However we are very lax and like to have fun and fool around. Winning will be important but that aside, we try to have alot of fun doing it. So don't be afraid we're going to make you play a lot, be yelling on Comms, etc.
Do you have COMMS?
We currently utilize Discord for our communication needs.
How much time do I need to put in?
That's up to you really, but of course the amount of time you play can affect your skill level as well as your rank in the regiment. We try not to be too pushy, it is just a game. However don't go away for long periods without letting us know, or you are likely to get kicked.
Can I start as an officer?
No, are you crazy? Seriously though, don't get hung up on rank. However if you want to be an officer, the first officer position is Chu-i (lieutenant), which is a Drop Commander position. Even though it is a low officer rank, it is a Drop Commander spot. If you have not demonstrated your ability to lead a drop in several different scenarios, you won't be able to earn this rank and above. Simple as that.
